What is a tourist and why are we all tourists?

As human beings, we are all curious creatures who are constantly seeking new experiences and adventure. Whether it’s exploring a new city, immersing ourselves in different cultures, or simply taking a break from our daily routines, travel is an integral part of our lives. And when we travel, we become tourists.

But what exactly is a tourist? According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a tourist is defined as “a person who travels for pleasure.” This definition is pretty limited though, as it doesn’t take into account the wide variety of motivations that inspire people to travel.

Tourists can be individuals who are on vacation, seeking adventure, exploring new destinations, or they could be local tourists that are interested in exploring their own back yard and discovering new local adventures. They can also be business travellers, students, or volunteers. Regardless of the reason for travel, tourists are all individuals who are temporarily visiting a place and are seeking to experience something new and different.

One of the unique aspects of being a tourist is that it provides us with the opportunity to broaden our perspectives and gain a new appreciation for the world around us. When we travel, we are exposed to new cultures, customs, and ways of life that are often very different from our own. This allows us to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diversity of the world, and helps us to expand our own personal horizons.

Many people only see themselves as tourists when they’re travelling to another country, and sometimes when they’re travelling to a distant province or territory that they’ve never been to before. But in reality, we’re all tourists on this planet, travelling through life and experiencing the world in our own unique way. Each of us is on a journey that is constantly evolving and shaping us, and our experiences and perspectives are shaped by the places we’ve been and the people we’ve met along the way.

Being a tourist is about much more than simply travelling for pleasure. It’s about the opportunity to broaden our perspectives, gain a new appreciation for the world, and continue to evolve and grow as individuals. Whether we’re travelling to new destinations or simply navigating our own journey through life, we are all tourists, experiencing the world in our own unique way.
